You are Blessed because of HIS goodness and Faithfulness to You

7 March 2018.

Morning time with Jesus inspired me with another exquisite picture of what living under grace looks like. It totally blessed me out of my socks that I had to write about this.

The richness and depths of our Father’s heart surpasses what we think it is.

It brought a whole new light to my soul. Fresh revelation of His word is something we all yearn for and can’t do without. He satisfies us with His grace in the morning.

The experience of the Emmaus road (Emmaus means ‘hot baths’) leaves us refreshed and burning in our hearts.

Christ our daily bread fuels us for the day, satisfies our souls, keeps us from temptations and keeps us focused and on track.

I’d like to capture a golden moment of what my son said one day, “The Bible never gets boring, even if you read the same page again. When you read other books, you only pick it up after some time.”

PRE- 10 Commandments

The children of Israel found themselves in no small pickle! It was the Red Sea in front of them and a furious Egyptian army hot on their tails. No more land to move forward on. No bridge, no speed boats, and no rescue helicopters. And the Red Sea was no small pond.

Exodus 14:11, 12

11 Then they said to Moses, “Is it because there were no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you dealt with us in this way, bringing us out of Egypt? 12 Is this not the word that we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.” (NASB + Strong’s, https://BibleHub.com)

I love what proceeds from heaven in response to their trauma, anguish, confusion, folly – despite an immense lack of faith after all those magnificent miracles they saw fairly recently, with their own eyes in Egypt:

Exodus 14:13, 14

13 But Moses said to the people, “Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the LORD which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever. 14 The LORD will fight for you while you keep silent.” (NASB + Strong’s, https://BibleHub.com)

Haven’t we all been there, if not for a fraction of a moment?

They had only just witnessed miraculous events that could have only been performed by a loving, kind God who delivered them out of the yoke of bondage, slavery and injustice.

However, their reasoning was deluded by what their physical eyes could see, and their speech started spiralling out of control.

Pursued by GRACE

BUT here comes Grace chasing them, greater than the power of their enemies. No chastisement, no chiding – just loving understanding and wisdom, pure favour that was undeserved. Let’s take a closer look.

There was absolutely nothing for them to do. Hey – there was nothing they could do at all!

We sometimes feel guilty if we don’t do something about something. We try and end up messing it up all the more.

There’s a place where we realise there is nothing we can do. When we are there, it is really not worth losing our peace and energy over it. The only thing left to do is nothing – let go.

We suddenly start anticipating a victory, a surprise around the corner. You just feel it in your bones, though everything seems bleak.

It’s a constant thought- training to surrender to Christ and expect the wonderful, because it’s about what He’s done and not what we have to do.

The Red Sea Parts!

A way through the Red Sea
A way through the Red Sea

Exodus 14:22

“22The sons of Israel went through the midst of the sea on the dry land, and the waters [were like] a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.”   (NASB + Strong’s, https://BibleHub.com)

They crossed over on dry ground. So the sea was parted and the ground was dried for them too. No mud to slow them down. He takes care of every detail.

How interesting that their murmurings did not incur wrath. They simply received miracle after miracle – in spite of their reaction. This is the Grace of God in action.

At Marah (Exodus 15:23-25), they encountered bitter, undrinkable water. He transformed the water. But not only was it no longer bitter. He made it sweet!

When they were hungry, they murmured strongly again. Yet God rained manna from heaven.

Their blessings, their provision and protection were dependent on God’s nature and His righteousness alone – HIS goodness, HIS loving kindness towards them and not on their behaviour.

God was being faithful to the covenant He made with Abraham. The best part is that the covenant was made whilst Abraham was asleep, in fact, so it could not have been dependent on Abraham’s works but by faith Christ.

The picture here is a covenant that God made with Jesus. The 2nd Adam has come. He lived and died on the cross for us. They buried His body. Defying death, He arose and is alive today.

We are declared righteous before the throne of God. Therefore, no longer subject to accusations from the enemy of our souls.

See why we can have rest for our conscience here: Getting to the Root of Peace.

Being Supply Conscious

Being supply-conscious and grace-minded leads to thanksgiving. It puts in us in a position to see and receive the miraculous, the impossible.

I am grateful for the times when I have been blessed though I was  least deserving of it, lacked the faith or was afraid and did not see a way out of the valley.

Keep seeing yourself blessed not based on your goodness or faithfulness but HIS goodness and faithfulness.

Be expectant of remarkable things coming your way: open doors, the unexpected idea, resourcefulness, blessed in areas you never dreamed of before, enjoying divine protection and safety, wisdom – you name it!

Takeaway Thought

God blesses me not because of my goodness and faithfulness, but because of HIS goodness and faithfulness”  (Prince, 2011 p. 154)

So, what has inspired me to see God in the Scriptures in a whole new light, you may ask?

‘100 Days of Favor‘ daily readings from ‘Unmerited Favor by Joseph Prince takes you on grace walks to see God’s unmerited favour unfold before your very eyes.

Gift yourself a copy or to the person who comes to mind as you read this.

I guarantee you won’t see yourself the same way, O you Blessed and Beloved one!

If you are not a believer but want to receive all that Jesus has done, just allow yourself to change your mind about God’s goodness and love toward you and believe it.

The fires of judgement already fell upon Christ for you. The good news is that the moment you believe in your heart that Christ took all your sins and died in your place, and confess with your mouth that He is Lord, you ARE saved. You are a child of God.  You have the blessing of Abraham and God’s constant presence with you EVERY DAY.

If this article has inspired you in any way and you’d like to read more of such pieces, share it and subscribe as a thumbs-up for more!  I would love to hear from you.

Getting to the Root of Peace

Why we can have true peace and keep it.

The One Quickest Way to Get to the Root of Peace

Someone paid for your peace judicially. Believe it. Receive it. Keep it.

What is my basis for saying this, you may ask. Well, let’s get to the root of the peace we all yearn for!

Why it is essential to know that peace is yours for the keeping?

The word ‘peace’ is derived from the Old French ‘pais’ through the Latin ‘pax’ whereas in the Greek language, peace is ‘eirene’.

Peace can mean liberty from disturbing occurrences, freedom from war, a state of calmness, tranquility or even an amicable agreement.

In a sense, peace is a state of well-being and being one in piece, being whole.  Not being in one piece or not being held together would mean a lack of peace  because peace is not to be dictated by our circumstances.

‘Hold your peace’ means being silent and not saying what you intended about something, as in holding your tongue or getting a hold of yourself. So where is this leading to?

The Root of ‘PEACE’

Further research into the Hebrew word, ‘shalom’ shows that the root word is ‘shelem’ – to pay for/ peace offering or ‘shulam’ – to be fully paid. Shalom itself means peace, harmony, wholeness, tranquility, completeness, prosperity and welfare (Wikipedia, 2018).

Well, Jesus paid for our peace. Jesus is  the Prince of Peace, Sar Shalom and is it not remarkable to observe that the punishment for our peace fell upon Christ?

We can have this inner peace that no money on earth can buy and no ideal holiday spot can ever deliver.

This unshakeable peace, is based on the solid rock of Christ’s finished work on the cross, the Lamb of GOD.

Jesus paid for our peace, through His blood that was shed for the remission of our sins. It is an eternal and complete work that brings rest to our conscience efficaciously.

Why we can have true peace and keep it.
The Root of PEACE

Jesus spoke shalom over the Sea of Galilee and calmed the storm for the disciples.

Creation became still and obeyed her Creator and the Redeemer.

Jesus is peace Himself. In Him all things hold together  (Colossians 1:17).

Romans 5: 17 says that much more those who receive the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the one Jesus Christ.

Some may find it hard to receive this gift and feel they must earn this peace and conscience of rest with God, due to past experiences or mindsets.

However, if we really think about this, no amount of good works or self-punishment would satisfy or pay for the peace of our inward conscience.

How can it? That would leave one exhausted, burned out and disillusioned or even doing things out of the wrong motive.

Rest to Your Conscience

Receiving what Jesus did for us when he came down to us in our human form, in order to redeem us out of sin and eternal death, brings rest to our conscience. Receiving forgiveness of all our sins brings rest to our conscience.

Good works that proceed out of that clear and restful conscience would look and feel a whole lot different.

God had provided Himself a Lamb. Oh the love of God, that he made a covenant with Jesus, who is never failing, and we receive the blessing of His obedience.

The Apostle Paul presented a most compelling  rhetoric and  essence of the Gospel in the book of Romans. He emphasized that through the one man’s disobedience many became sinners, likewise, through the One Man’s obedience many shall be made righteous. It is not by works lest any man should boast.

Romans 5:19

19 For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous.

Bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. What does this mean though?

Taking Thoughts Captive

How about seeing this in a different light? Take our thoughts captive to the truth that Christ’s obedience on the cross has made us righteous before God.

Thus, it is having Christ- consciousness that leads to life rather than sin-consciousness that drives to self-condemnation.

This gift of His righteousness comes by faith (by believing) in the finished work of the Jesus, the Lamb of God on the cross.

Release and relinquish all self-efforts to get right with God. It takes practice to renew the mind and commit to a lifestyle of meditating on His truth day and night.

Repentance is fundamentally a process of changing one’s mind, as the original Greek word is ‘metanoia’.

Dr Caroline Leaf, a cognitive neuroscientist dissects the scientific aspect of  ‘metanoia’, and unveils how our brain changes as a result of our thought life, and consequently affecting the state of our bodies and well-being.

“The process of thinking and choosing is the most powerful thing in the universe after God, and it is a phenomenal gift from God to be treasured and used properly.”

“Thou hast made us for thyself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it finds its rest in thee.”
― Augustine of Hippo,  Confessions

Hurrah for The Easy Burden and Light Yoke!

Letting go to Jesus, trusting Him and His ability to see us through, does lift a weight off the shoulders.  Hence, we begin to have an posture of looking upwards to Him.

His burden is easy and His yoke is light.

Bid Farewell to Worry and Re-align Our Thoughts

Matthew 6

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[e]?

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.

29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?

31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.

33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
